A few weeks back we had a list of places that we had wanted to visit. The last two places on that list were Stephens Falls (at Governor Dodge State Park) and Hyde Mill. Both places are west of where we live by about an hour, but they make a good combo trip.

We normally only do pictures like this for National Parks, but we're giving this attraction the same treatment.

It is a short paved path to the waterfall. However, the walk down the steps was so slippery, that I needed two hands to hold onto the railing to get down there. The rest of the family stayed up top. They could see me, and for some great reason, AT&T service worked well so we could FaceTime.

Here are some photos and a video.

After the falls, we walked back a little bit and took a short path to this hole in the wall that we had never seen before. Clearly we had been to Stephens' Falls in the past, but we had never seen this. It is a room with a spring that ran right through it. It was an old school refrigerator. The owner could keep his milk and food cool from the natural spring and cool water that ran through it.

The funny thing is, I never took a photo of the outside, just the inside. Here is a website that shows the outside.

On the way back, we went to Hyde Mill. It has been a good 10 years since we have been here, but still pretty amazing. The attraction is just this mill that is right next to the road. You can kind of get close to it, but it's all private property. Still a good place for a snack.

They are burning the prairie at Festge Park. A quick photo looking out the window as we drove.

With school starting tomorrow, we read Lowly Worm Goes to School. I wonder if we should pack him an apple to give to his teacher?
