Going to be a lot of photos today of our adventure to Schoenberg Wildlife Production Area. We were last here on November 14.
First up though, scones at Goose Pond.
After a little detour to Poynette, we saw this sign. Apparently John Muir used to stop here for the view as he walked from his family home to UW-Madison. Kind of funny to think that you would walk to school...what would you take, just enough food to last for two days?
After that, we went for our walk at Schoenberg. It is a nice walk. All of it either paved or on a boardwalk with the end at the observation area.
According to my Merlin app, the Common Merganser is not common to this area, but this is definitely one. A really radiant white body, green head and a red/orange bill. Maybe I'll recognize it the next time I see one.
The common merganser range.
This next one is potentially a rare sighting. The Greater White-fronted Goose is likely on its way to way northern Canada. I'm pretty sure this is one of them. Probably coming from Texas. I did my best to get a good photo of this one...
I also sent an email to Madison Audubon to confirm this is actually the bird. I have not heard back from them yet.
Skillet Lasagna for dinner.
And that's a wrap for year one.
