Halloween

We had a nice sunrise this morning. Sometimes I like to take photos that show how we move through the seasons. As the sun rises today, I am reminded how far the sun moves from month to month. On the first day of Fall, the sun rises directly to the east.

In the morning, we had a quick drop off of a birthday present in Edgerton and followed up with a quick breakfast/walk at Magnolia Bluff State Natural Area. It is in northern Rock County, which is mostly flat, except for this area, which was quite beautiful rising above the farmland.

As part of the Halloween prep, we needed to use some paints to dress up our box. We were thinking that most of Halloween would be a little distant, so putting a box at the end of the sidewalk was where we'd put our pretzels.

Another tradition is to carve the pineapple. At $2.99, it is cheaper than buying a pumpkin.

Next up are the pumpkin cookies. We kept these for ourselves.

Finally, it was almost 5PM, so it was time for a quick selfie of our costumes before we headed out. Our costumes, I am the understated "BOO" person, he is The Lorax and my lovely is a construction worker ballerina.

Halloween was a bit different this year. Of the 120 homes in our neighborhood, I would say around 40% were giving out candy. Most people had tables set out on their driveways where trick or treaters would walk up to grab candy. In some places, people had fire pits and were watching the trick or treaters. It was quite nice. The weather was around 60 degrees, which sure beat the snow we had last year.

This place was the most creative for delivering candy through the candy chute.

After a quick loop through the neighborhood, we finished up with a pretty good haul. He even got some Twix for me, my favorite.

Time to flip the calendar and move the clocks back!

Not too many photos today. We had a drop off of the car to get new headlight bulbs at that Subaru dealership. I'll post this photo from yesterday where we made some wrapping paper for a friend's birthday.

In the morning it was nice and sunny, so we got a chance to go out golfing.

After a little misbehaving, we had to pause our play for a little bit. He was not happy, so of course I took a picture, because not every moment is the best one ever, right?

Then I found this slightly amusing. How can they have honey from the ancient Egyptions, yet my honey purchase from Hyvee has an expiration date in 2022? I thought it was just a bit funny.

Will have more photos from Halloween tomorrow.

Today after a bunch of meetings, we went out to a playground at Parisi Park which just popped up sometime in the past month. You can see all the new equipment. We really liked the fancy teeter totter, if you can call it that.

In the afternoon, we dropped off a library book. We could see them painting this mural on the side of Roman Candle Pizza.

In the evening, we watched a series called "Under the Ghost Light," which was put on by our local theater company. It is a Halloween themed gathering which featured all kinds of scary stories and paranormal activities that have taken place at and around the Capitol Theater in downtown Madison.

As we started the day, he wanted to help me with some work. I have this fancy notebook called a "Rocketbook." He was helping me wipe down the pages so I could take more notes.

At 10:30 was the Zoom Halloween Party from the Madison Children's Museum. Us and about 40 other children logged in for a half hour of stories, games, scavenger hunt and dance. Just a nice little activity to break up the day.

Here we are watching the Zoom...

Here is the activity where they were trying to wrap up the woman with toilet paper to make her look like a zombie.

For the scavenger hunt, they had you find stuff in your house that was orange, made noise, shined and something you could put on your head. Just a fun little activity.

At noon it was nice out, so we walked to the top of the hill.

We found two dandelions. Always dandelions...

There was a pop up library event today. We got this nice coloring book.

We also drove past the Badger football coach's home. He tested positive for the virus, so we know he is home. Was hoping to see him raking the leaves.

Later on after Kindermusik, we got a chance to take the official Halloween photos. We got his mustache fixed up a little bit from earlier today. It looks perfect now.

I took off a bit of this morning to spend some time at the playground. Our playground we chose is one we would not normally choose, but figured it might be fun since it is nearby. The park at Lakeview Park is where we went.

This is also a location where they re-did the big park shelter this summer. This is our first look at it.

to me, the ceiling height seems short

Right from the get go, we had a bad sign....the big slide was broken.

We did have fun on the twirly slide.

He still can't climb up on the big spiderweb, but he still likes to play around it.

Collecting and lining up sticks in the sand will always be fun.

As we got in the car, he insisted on getting in the passenger seat and trying on all the sunglasses.

In the evening, we went to Greenway Station. He was busy dancing.

Here is the pumpkin tree again.

Today we woke up to a little bit of snow on the rooftops and some on the ground. That's a bit earlier than expected...

Today was a grocery pick up day, but the transaction was so fast, that I forgot to take a picture. We did however get out around 5PM to walk around the retention pond. It was cool out, but not too windy.

We got more leeks in our CSA, so I made soup again. One of my favorites.

At night we went for another walk to find spooky pumpkins.

Here is our Sunday morning line up, starting with church.

After church, we were on our way to the Ice Age Trail. A few weeks back we started a segment, but did not make it to the Sandstone Cliffs. We parked on the other end of the trail today, and made our way westward.

It didn't take too long, and we were there. We were delightfully surprised, that with a little bit of hiking, you could make it to the top.

We ventured on a little bit more before heading back to the car.

And just like that, 1.1 miles of the Ice Age Trail is complete.

In the afternoon, it started to snow. It didn't stick though.

The arboretum still has a little color. Sundays are good because you can drive the entire length of the drive without having to turn around.

With all of the leaves collected earlier in the day, we were able to do a leaf craft that involved gluing them to paper.

Finally, a year ago we found a creative way to stay overnight in Denver International Airport. Kind of opens your eyes up when you go through this at least once in your lifetime.

Life is an adventure!
