We are putting our birding skills to use right away, and it is giving us new destinations for our breakfast picnics, which are now inside our vehicle.
Today we drove to the Schoenberg Marsh Waterfowl Production Area. What is a Production Area? According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, here is the definition "Waterfowl production areas, or WPAs, are little known, but important components of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Like refuges, they protect habitat for wildlife, but the primary purpose of WPAs is to protect wetlands and grasslands for waterfowl (ducks, geese, and swans)"
Here is a map of where we drove.
Here we are inside picnicking.
We chose this spot since it had a paved 0.5 mile walk out to this nice observation area.
We didn't see much, other than some tundra swans flying by.
However on the way back, we drove past the nearby Goose Pond. Here we saw thousands of Canada Goose, five Tundra Swans and a handful of American Coot. Kind of fun learning new things. If you look closely, you'll see the Tundra Swans (big white bird) in the background.
Here he is pretending to be a Tundra Swan.
Lastly, we started seeing a handful of people at the Hilton Waikoloa webcam today. Always something good to look at when we have cool temps in Wisconsin.
In the evening, we had an online Laura Benanti concert.
